Good, old-fashioned fun isn’t fully retired to the past; the Atlanta Fair turns a long forgotten memory into a reality this month with the sights and sounds of a full midway at Turner Field. After all, who doesn’t love an old-fashioned fair?
Just before the baseball season kicks into high gear and the Braves return to their home base, the Turner Field parking lot transforms itself into every child and – let’s face it – most adults’ happiest dream.
The excitement and thrill of a fair has long been something Western culture has looked forward to with the advent of warmer weather. Fairs remind us of simpler times and uncomplicated fun. That is their magic.
And country truly comes to town when the Atlanta Fair sets up each year. But it’s exactly what the founders, three brothers from southeastern Kentucky, are trying to recreate as they return to Atlanta every March.
Considered one of the largest inner city fairs in the Southeast, the Atlanta Fair does always draw a crowd. Electrifying rides, rousing games and flavorful concessions all add up to an exciting time for fairgoers.
Looking for a thrill? Smaller scale amusement park rides will swing you, flip you, drop you and rock you until you beg for mercy – or for more! Game barkers are on hand to have you try your luck at winning one of a zillion stuffed cartoon prizes. And the hotdogs, funnel cakes, cotton candy and fried whatever-you-want will make your mouth water!
All in all, it’s hard to resist the twinkling lights, delicious smells and gleeful sounds that take over the Turner Field Gray lot for a month. Gate admission is $1 per child and $3, $5, or $8 per adult depending upon the day and time.
